On the Trans Kalimantan route from Kasongan to Palangka Raya, approximately 9 kilometers from Kasongan, lies a well-known tourist attraction among locals called Bukit Batu. This destination is considered a spiritual tourism site, as it is believed to possess a mystical aura. Many sacred halls (balai/keramat) and yellow flags can be found in the area, symbolizing that rituals, vows, and other spiritual activities have taken place there.
According to oral folklore passed down through generations, the exact origins of Bukit Batu remain unknown. Elders have recounted stories about the site for centuries, believing it to be sacred. Unlike man-made structures, Bukit Batu is considered a divine manifestation of God's miraculous creation.
One of the most intriguing spots in Bukit Batu is Telaga Air Bawi Kameloh, a small well-like spring emerging from a large rock, continuously flowing with water. Legend has it that this pool was the bathing place of Bawi Kameloh, a celestial maiden of exceptional beauty. According to Dayak folklore, Bawi Kameloh, believed to be an ethereal being, would descend to Earth and cleanse herself in this sacred pool. This legend has led locals to believe that bathing in Telaga Air Bawi Kameloh carries special benefits.
For the Dayak people, particularly those in Kasongan and its surrounding areas, traditional beliefs and rituals are deeply ingrained in their culture. Many trust in the mystical powers of the spring, believing it can help overcome various life challenges that often go beyond human reasoning and understanding.
It is said that bathing in Telaga Air Bawi Kameloh can cleanse a person of negative energies. Additionally, it is believed to heal ailments, especially those related to mystical illnesses or supernatural afflictions. The pool is also regarded as a means of warding off misfortune. Many visitors even believe that bathing in its waters can bring good luck in finding a soulmate. However, these benefits are thought to be effective only when accompanied by pure intentions and a sincere heart, as true blessings are ultimately granted by God.
For those who wish to bathe in the sacred spring, it is advised to ensure that the water does not flow back into the pool after use. Visitors must also consult the local caretaker regarding any required preparations or rituals. To preserve the site, the Katingan Regency Government, through its Tourism Department, has fenced off the area to prevent indiscriminate access. Anyone wishing to visit the site must seek permission from the caretaker or guardian of the sacred spring.
